Years ago, my father worked as an engineer for Union Electric. In the 1960’s, if there was a strike, he was required to be at the Cahokia power station for the duration to keep the lights on in the St. Louis area.
In 1976, the plant was taken out of service and my father was part of the group setup to retire the old girl. Being a youngster at the time, I would occasionally ride with him to the plant on a random Saturday or Sunday when something came up he needed to attend to. I remember getting to explore the plant for hours with him – it was a dream come true for someone who dreamed of becoming an engineer. It was a monstrous building and incredibly complex.
After my father passed, I came across some booklets I’m assuming he picked up a work over the years. One of them was this guide book for the Cahokia Power Station. There are two versions, one is smaller in size, so choose appropriately.
